We moved 54 dogs into our Bloomfield facility on April 15th, 2010. Since then we've been working hard to get our dogs and cats settled in and ourselves organized. We received a Certificate of Occupancy on Friday, May 21st, so we're officially in business, although we are not yet open to the general public. Once we are fully staffed, we will have public hours.
Click here to see some photos of our facility.
In the meantime, all adoptions are being facilitated on an appointment basis, so we can make sure someone will be available to help you when you come.
Our biggest challenge is funding to buy all of the necessary supplies to operate a facility of this magnitude. For those of you who have been following our progress, you already know that this facility opened 10 months behind schedule. What you may or may not know is that it is also hundreds of thousands of dollars over budget due to circumstances beyond our control.
So what does this mean? We need your help. Many people believe that because The Simon Foundation has a generous benefactor, we do not need the support of anyone else. There is nothing further from the truth. A facility of this magnitude needs more than one person can give. With your support we can continue to save the lives of animals in need. To make a donation to our cause, please click here.
There are lots of other things that we need as well. Perhaps you or your company offers a service that we could benefit from. To find out more information, or to offer your services, please click here and submit an online Contact Us Form detailing the services that you can provide.
Thank you to the students from the Glenholme School in Washington, CT for conducting a donation drive for our new shelter, and for walking dogs with us when they came to drop off our donations.
