Ernie

Ernie came to us from a high-kill shelter this past winter when he was found as stray.

With a head is larger than a football and a heart equally as big, Ernie became an instant favorite of the staff.

Still basically a puppy at just over a year old, Ernie is a survivor.  Shortly after arriving at our facility he was diagnosed with atypical parvo. Parvo is a deadly disease in dogs, and to survive it means that the dog has an amazing will to live.  That's Ernie.  He is incredibly sensitive and loving, agile and high-energy, but also a big couch potato.

He would do best living in a home with a family that wants him to be a part of it.  He loves to hike and ride in the car, but he's not a big runner.  He'd rather hang out and watch the kids play soccer, or take a nap on the deck after loping around the back yard.  That's not to say that Ernie doesn't like to walk, because he does.  He just isn't hard-core like some dogs.

He had to spend over a month in isolation after the parvo diagnosis, and that really set him back.  He's a very social dog, and to not be able to play with us and run around made him so sad.  He thought we were shunning him because we didn't like him anymore, and that caused him to spiral into a depression.  He's all better now, and we're hoping a wonderful family will fall in love with this big meatball and give him the home he deserves.

Ernie is a large dog so it's best to place him in a home with older children.  He still needs to fine tune his basic obedience training, but Ernie is smart and loyal, and he aims to please.
