Adoption Procedures

We strive to place each of our animals into the home that offers the greatest likelihood of success and permanency. Our adoption policy is designed to ensure the well being of our animals.

In order to adopt a dog or cat from The Simon Foundation, Inc. you must first fill out an Application to Adopt A Pet. We will contact your vet reference and your landlord (if you rent your home) to verify your information. It is helpful if you call your vet in advance and give them permission to release your records to us.

If you prefer, you can ask your veterinarian to sign a copy of the Vet Reference Letter and print it out on letterhead from their veterinary practice. You can thing bring this letter, along with copies of the vet records for your current and past pets with you to your showing. (Please note that your veterinarian may not want to sign this letter, and will instead prefer to speak to us directly.)

If you currently have another dog, you must bring him or her with you to meet our dog to ensure they are compatible. We will not adopt a dog to you without first meeting your current dog/s.

The Simon Foundation reserves the right to refuse any adoption, for any reason, if we feel it is not a good fit for our animal. All adoptions are contingent on a home visit either before or, in special circumstances, after the adoption. A home visit is conducted so we can see that our animal is going into a safe and loving home, not to check up on your house keeping habits. This visit may be conducted by one of our staff members or by a trained volunteer. Depending on the circumstances we may choose to deliver the animal to you.

Adoption Fees:

Dog adoption fees include one two hour training class in our state-of-the-art training facility.

Dogs: $275.00
Puppies: $350.00
Senior Dogs: $150.00* (8 years of age and older)

All Simon Foundation dog adoptions include the opportunity to purchase a six-week Puppy Kindergarten or Adult Basic Training program in our training facility. These training programs are available for a one time fee of $95.00.

Cats: $100.00
Kittens: $125.00
Senior Cats: $50.00 (8 years of age or older)

All dogs are provided with the following services prior to adoption:

Spay / Neuter
Age Appropriate Vaccinations
Heartworm / Lyme Disease Testing
Micro-Chipping

All cats are provided with the following services prior to adoption:

Spay / Neuter
Age Appropriate Vaccinations
FIV/FeLV Testing

In addition, Simon Foundation dogs receive basic obedience training from one of our Trainers and staff members while they reside in our shelter. This training focuses on the following commands:

Sit
Stay
Down
Come
Leave it
Heel
Go to your bed

This is not a guarantee that further training will not be necessary, but you may be surprised at how much your newly adopted dog already knows once you get him or her home.

Remember, when you adopt a dog from The Simon Foundation, Inc., for an additional $95.00 you can take advantage of a six-week group training class with one of our highly skilled trainers. This training offer is valid for 3 months after you adopt your dog from The Simon Foundation, Inc.
